Alternatively, would you recommend a Berberine oral supplement in treating dry eye resulting from accutane induced MGD?

I’m not necessarily opposed to oral administration of Berberine, however I’m slightly cautious. Berberine offers a variety of health benefits, particularly in the context of glucose regulation and cardiovascular health. However, its effects on mood are somewhat unpredictable. There are some anecdotal reports lowered mood, either as a result of lowered blood glucose or possibly due to a slight antagonising effect at the D1 and D2 receptors. [1] Conversely, there’s evidence that Berberine can remediate depression by enhancing hippocampal neurogenesis, which is the purported goal of practically all first-line treatments for depression. This pro-cognitive effect is another example of Berberine epigenetic actions by regulating microRNAs such as miR-34b-5p. [2] I’ve taken a much closer look at the possible application of Berberine in the context of PAS, PFS and PSSD in an upcoming article.
